Invisible extinction of gut bacteria is harming human health

Research showing how modern medicine and diet are disrupting our internal microbiome is being used to create a new documentary.

Called “Invisible Extinction” and focusing on the work of Maria Dominguez Bello and her Partner, Martin J Blaser, it describes how damage to the human microbiome has been linked to many diseases, including cancers and autoimmune disorders. 

It also describes a potential solution; increasing the microbial diversity of the gut. 

"Restoring one’s microbial diversity is harder than it sounds. ...research is needed to develop a more targeted approach for treating other conditions, Dr. Blaser said."
