Psoriasis Linked to Damaged Skin Microbiome

Psoriasis skin has a decreased microbiome diversity compared to healthy skin

The skin microbiome of psoriasis sufferers is significantly damaged compared to healthy people.

This finding brings psoriasis in line with the majority of other skin problems, where the same observation has been made.

"A significant decrease in microbiome alpha-diversity..."

"...was noted in psoriasis skin."

The research team, from Lodz in Poland, also noted that lesional psoriasis skin was depleted in biodiversity compared to non-lesional skin on the same person.

This is yet more evidence of the link between a damaged skin microbiome and the skin allergy epidemic in the western world.
