Could Lockdowns Have Worsened Health for Children?

Lack of exposure to microbes could have caused microbiome damage that leads to more diseases in the future

The lack of exposure to ‘germs’ due to Covid-19-induced lockdowns could have negatively affected children’s immune systems.

The exposure to nonpathogenic microorganisms is essential for prevention of chronic diseases. They ‘train’ the immune system to function normally.

“Children who aren’t exposed to germs on a regular basis have different microbiomes than those who are. Exposure to nonpathogenic microorganisms train the immune system to function normally and not react excessively or unnecessarily..”

The microbiome plays an important role in how well the immune system works.

The “immunity debt” caused by lack of virus and bacteria exposure during lockdown, is thought to predispose children to more infections in the future.

The article also says that the single minded approach to vaccines has resulted in the medical industry forgetting the benefits of infections.

Could this result in us valuing the effect of our natural environment more?
