Only 25% of Sunscreens Without ‘Troublesome’ Chemical Ingredients

Potentially dangerous chemical ingredients are used readily in sunscreens without much testing

Most sunscreens contain chemicals that are not “generally regarded as safe and effective”, a new report reveals.

12 of the most common ingredients used in sunscreens have not been tested for potential health effects.

These include hormone disruption, skin allergies and skin penetration.

"A significant portion of the market is still made up of products using the 12 ingredients which can’t be considered safe and effective without further testing."

Previous research has indicated that these chemicals can be absorbed into the bloodstream with unknown consequences.

Therefore, is our obsession with sunscreen leading to more harm than good?
