50% of the USA Has a Chronic Disease

While chronic disease has risen rapidly, the scientific literature has not followed

Over 50% of Americans have at least one chronic disease, which is creating an “epidemic, according to recent research.

To put this in perspective, the rate of chronic disease in the USA was 7.5% in 1953.

Why is there such a large increase in chronic disease, when at the same time, the incredible advancements of the medical industry cut the death rates from acute diseases?

"In the years since the 1950s, when the chronic disease prevalence grew, the clinical literature did not follow."

According to Dr. Holman, the medical industry “remained preoccupied with acute disease”.

Currently, 86% of health care costs are attributable to chronic disease. Therefore there needs to be more research into the reason for this epidemic.

If we can find out why this is happening, then we could roll back this chronic disease epidemic.
