Environmental Changes Turn “Bacteria from Prey to Predator”

New research shows how bacterial behaviour depends on the conditions around them

New research has found that cooling can flip predator prey hierarchies for microbes.

This paper was summarised in an article on “SciTechDaily”.

"...two species of bacteria grown in a lab reversed their predator-prey relationship after one was grown at a lower temperature."

But why is this important?

It is often believed that diseases are caused by “bad” bacteria.

However, this joins a number of studies dispelling the common belief that microbes are inherently “good” or “bad”. Instead their behaviour can change depending on the conditions.

How do we stop good bacteria becoming bad? Create the conditions for biodiversity to flourish.
