Chemicals in Body Washes and Shampoos Linked to Autism

New research also highlights a link to other neurological disorders like Multiple Sclerosis

A new study has highlighted the role of two chemicals in the disruption of normal brain function.

Chemicals called “quats” are found in body washes, shampoos, sunscreens, shaving creams and disinfectants, among others.

"Quats cause oligodendrocytes—brain cells that generate the protective layer around nerve cells—to die..."

Disrupted production of these cells is linked to multiple sclerosis and autism.

This led the study author to say they have uncovered a “previously unrecognized risk factor for neurological disease”.
