Has the Sun Wrongly Been Linked to Skin Cancers?

Research shows indoor occupations increase the risk of skin cancer

A study on Navy personnel concluded that the sun actually protects against skin cancer.

"[this shows] a protective role for brief, regular exposure to sunlight...

"...vitamin D suppress[es] growth of malignant melanoma cells..."

In addition, they found that skin cancer was more common on the body instead of areas exposed to sunlight, like arms and legs.

This is at odds with the advice by some dermatologists, where they say the sun should be avoided.

Therefore, should we be less sun-phobic?
