Damaged Skin Can Lead to Food Allergies

An article by the Independent shows how mainstream this idea is becoming

Damaged skin from common skin problems can allow allergens to pass through the skin into the body, triggering the immune system.

This can lead to food allergies, says Sara Brown in the Independent.

"[When the skin is damaged], food allergens may pass through. This stimulates immune cells in the skin, which release chemical signals of attack."

Sara goes on to say that the next time that person eats the specific food, the body is already “primed to produce an allergic reaction”.

This shows that, as a crucial part of the body’s system,  damaged skin can lead to a malfunctioning immune system.

This goes against conventional knowledge, where many disregard the skin’s role in overall health.
