JUST PUBLISHED Part 2: “Mass Extinction” on the Skin

Modern humans are experiencing a "catastrophic biodiversity loss" on their skin

A “catastrophic biodiversity loss” is happening in the human microbiome, mirroring the crisis in our environment.

A large loss in gut biodiversity has been well publicised in documentaries and research.

However, in our newly published research, we show that exactly the same is happening on our skin.

"...biodiversity loss of 30–84% has occurred on the skin of people in the developed world compared to our ancestors."

Why does this matter?

There is a “Chronic Disease Epidemic” raging across the western world.

It is now common knowledge that biodiversity loss in the gut is contributing to “most of the Human diseases affecting westernized countries.”

But the skin is always overlooked when talking about these chronic diseases.

Our new research shows that biodiversity loss on the skin could be an active contributor, not just to chronic skin problems, but to many whole body diseases previously thought to be unrelated to the skin.
